Vegetable Garden

The vegetable garden is both a source of food and an important learning area for the children of Dunia ya Heri. Under guidance they grow fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, beans, maize, peppers, onions, pumpkins and cucumbers, which are used directly in the kitchen. Each schoolchild has their own four-square-metre plot for which they are fully responsible — from morning and evening watering to pest control using natural neem oil. The first successes with ripe tomatoes and blooming sunflowers fill the children with pride. Some enterprising children even want to sell their harvest to the kitchen to earn pocket money, while others donate produce to poor families in the village.
