Henhouse

The henhouse is an important element of Dunia ya Heri's self-sufficiency and a practical learning place for the children. Free-range chickens, geese and ducks live here and are cared for by the children every day. They collect fresh eggs, which are used directly in the kitchen for meal preparation. Animal care teaches the children responsibility and the value of livestock — important lessons for later life. Interestingly, the children who are raised vegetarian have developed a special love for the animals and say, 'How could you eat animals — that's terrible, we love them so much.' The henhouse is therefore not only a source of food but also a place where compassion and responsibility grow.
