Newsletter June 2025

Dear Friends,

Our summer in the Southern Hemisphere is slowly drawing to a close. As every year, we received practical support from volunteers during the European winter months. It was only after the rainy season in April that temperatures cooled down again—though "cooler" still means 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, instead of the usual 30 to 32 degrees.

But first, the most important news:

Our Children

Rainy Season

We currently care for 41 orphans. Of these, 25 attend primary school and six attend preschool, which we have been able to use again since the beginning of the year after the reconstruction of the community center and the old school building. In total, we have 140 children across five classes.

Currently, we still have space for three toddlers in the orphanage. To reach our target of 60 children in the future, we need to start building two more homes for our teenagers in the coming year.

We place great importance on giving our children responsibility early on. For example, they look after our animals (cats, geese, chickens, ducks, and the fish in the newly created pond), cultivate their own garden, and help on the farm, thereby gaining agricultural knowledge. They wash their own clothes, help with dishwashing, clean the tables, and sweep the floor after meals.

Four children diligently practice piano, while ten girls and six boys enjoy sewing simple items. Our oldest children have made great progress in swimming; they race to dive and can hardly wait until they can get back in the water again.

We are especially grateful to our volunteers Ana Lorena and Angela Roberta from Brazil, and Anna Bazan from the USA, who will stay with us for one to two years. Thanks also to Arthur and Alex from Bogenhofen/Austria, who are supporting us for 3 months.

Together with our children, we regularly visit prisoners in a nearby facility to bring them hygiene items, books, food, and drinks, and to sing songs with them. Recently, the prison management offered that inmates could assist us with work on our farm. Around 30 prisoners and five guards helped us clear land for four days. They were particularly happy about the lunch we prepared for them. (Unfortunately, photos were not allowed.) We will use the cleared land for planting corn, papayas, and bananas.

The Shredder

Our goat shed is currently being renovated to consistently separate the dairy goats from the others. Due to cross-breeding different varieties, milk production had recently decreased—yet goat's milk is the best substitute for mother's milk.

In November, we received a wood chipper from Germany for tree trunks up to 16 cm in diameter. The shredded material is perfect for mulching our cultivated areas: it protects the soil from drying out during the dry season and simultaneously serves as a natural fertilizer.

Construction Projects

On March 9th, we were able to cook in our new refectory for the first time—the building was funded by BILD hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder" (A Heart for Children). The kitchen furniture was made by Maike and Jonathan Schmider from Deggendorf, and the sanitary installation was handled by David Lumpi from Austria. A PV system installed by Darius Kowalczyk and his friends from Poland supplies the refectory with electricity. We are very grateful for the intensive support from "Ein Herz für Kinder" as well as our visitors and are delighted to have finally moved out of the much too small kitchen (originally only intended for preparing baby food).

A special highlight was the visit of Bert and Günther, who installed seven high-quality blackboards that they had organized for us in Germany two years ago.

Missionary Work

At the end of 2024, we received 10,000 copies of the book "The Great Controversy" ("From Shadow to Light") in Swahili—a project made possible by ASI and two other sponsors. The first 2,000 copies have already been distributed. Next, we plan to print the book "Patriarchs and Prophets," which is particularly suitable for missions to Muslims. The translation is complete and is currently being corrected.

Four Bible workers regularly visit villages, distribute literature, conduct Bible studies, and support the sick and needy. Twice a week, they also teach at a local secondary school. Their work has already led to several baptisms. To be more closely connected with the village population, we opened a health shop in the village in 2024.

Challenges

Thank God, we have so far been able to cover the monthly expenses of around 12,000 Euros for running costs—for which we sincerely thank all supporters!

To create urgently needed space for the 6th and 7th grades, we still need to build two classrooms this year (€40,000-€50,000). The next step for 2026 is the completion of our teenager dormitories.

We would like to thank all sponsors, volunteers, and friends who support us actively or through encouraging participation.

FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS - THANK YOU VERY MUCH

With warm regards and blessings,

Yours
